Warning:
This modification is done at your own risk. Proper installation, inspection and continued maintenance of this product lies with the end user. It is the end users sole responsibility to inspect, maintain, and clean the components used with this product including it’s filters on an occasional or as needed basis.
What it Does:
This kit replaces the rear differential axle vent and front factory differential axle breather & ADD(automatic differential disconnect) vent.
Our breather filters allow for two-way, expansion and contraction of heated or rapidly cooled air. It eliminates hard vacuum pulls and helps reduce the stress on your axle seals.
Components:
You'll receive approximately 5.5-6 feet of reinforced fuel line hose for the rear axle breather relocation. You will also receive stainless steel hose clamps for specific applications. A rubber grommet will be used for the mounting of the rear breather filter. It will require a 3/4" hole to be drilled out for the location of your choosing. It will double as the O-ring once the filter is snug to the hose barb fitting. Choose your mounting location carefully. You can also use a thin washer (not supplied) between flat breather and grommet to evenly spread the load from the top side when snugging down.
Installation:
Our pictures show the fuel filler neck bezel for the 16-23 Tacoma model. Find a flat spot to drill, not a curved surface, we recommend taking out the fuel filler bezel and placing the breather in the 1 o'clock position(refer to photo). Its important to locate the hole low enough so the hose barb on the opposite side can clear the sheet metal around the filler neck housing when re-installing.
The 10-24 4Runner, the flat breather location does not work in the filler neck bezel without modification-we suggest an accessible interior panel location toward the driver side rear spare tire tool cubby. We include the cone style breather in lieu of the flat style.
It is important to know that the low profile flat breather is only to be used for the rear axle application along with the rubber grommet. This filter is too long for the front breather hose barbs. The front breather hose barbs require the cone shaped filters plus O-rings when assembled. If you have a FJC- a cone breather is used in the fuel filler bezel area for the rear axle set up as shown in the product labeled photos.
**If your model has a factory rear locker actuator vent breather as shown in the labeled photo then we have you covered with the required vacuum fitting. This ties everything in clean with the rear axle breather relocation line. Included will be a 1/4" hose clamp for the factory actuator line to vacuum fitting connection. This set up will receive 1/4" inner diameter fuel line hose. Axle and filter end clamps are not needed as this will be a tight pressure fit. Recommend you use a light touch of lubricant when inserting this hose size over the provided hose barb and axle barb ends.**
**Please note, long travel suspension, not to be confused with a traditional mid travel set up, will require slightly longer hose lengths, please make note when submitting the order if you have true long travel rear suspension.**
Our kit includes the proper British Standard Pipe Thread (BSPT) hose barb required for the axle connection-these threads are tapered by design and self sealing. It is a brass fitting. Do not over tighten. Only tighten until snug then a 1/2 to 3/4 turn more. Teflon tape, thread tape or liquid tape is not required for the threads of this fitting.
There is no relocation for the front, just replacement of the vent/breather. Once you see how high up the factory locations are for these breathers, you will know why no relocation is needed. You are pretty much dealing with other issues if you let water get that high in the engine bay.
(This will no longer contain the drain plug and fill plug gaskets for doing rear diff fluid service)
