Toyota Tacoma, FJ, and 4Runner Differential Breather Relocation KitState48Overland
(This modification is done at your own risk. Proper installation of this product lies with the end user. It is the end users sole responsibility to inspect, maintain, and clean the components used with this product including it’s filters on an occasional basis.)
This kit replaces the rear differential axle vent, front differential axle breather and ADD(automatic differential disconnect) vent located next to the front axle breather in the engine bay. Our breather filters allow for two-way, expansion and contraction of heated or rapidly cooled air. It eliminates hard vacuum pulls and helps reduce the stress on your axle seals.
We have sourced all of the necessary parts needed to complete this job economically when compared to other brand named manufacturers. The kit also comes with 2 new, rear axle drain and fill plug crush gaskets should you choose to service your rear differential when completing this mod. You'll receive 6.5 feet of reinforced fuel line hose for the rear axle breather relocation. You will have to use some force (just for the rear relocation: use a light spray of silicone lube on the hose barb ends) when pushing the hose on the ends of the barbs for the rear. The fit will be tight enough in which no hose clamps are necessary for the front or rear application hose barbs.
A rubber grommet will be used for the mounting of the rear breather filter. It will require a 3/4" hole to be drilled out for the location of your choosing. It will double as the O-ring once the filter is snug to the hose barb fitting. Choose your mounting location carefully. Our pictures show the filler neck bezel (find a flat spot to drill, not a curved surface) in the fuel door area and behind the tail light were used. For the passenger tail light application, we routed the hose over the top of the spare tire mount, between bottom of the bed and frame, diagonally and used zip ties where needed, doing our best to leave slack in the hose for suspension droop near the axle. Please note, longer suspension travel will require longer hose lengths.
It is important to know that the low profile flat breather is only to be used for the rear axle application along with the rubber grommet. This filter is too long for the front breather hose barbs. The front breather hose barbs require the cone shaped filters plus O-rings when assembled.
If your model has a factory rear locker actuator vent breather(excluding Gen 3 Tacoma), then we have you covered with the required vacuum fitting that ties everything in clean with the rear axle breather relocation line (also included will be a 1/4" hose clamp for the factory actuator line to vacuum fitting connection).
No more sourcing expensive vacuum unions from the dealership for the rear axle housing. Our kit includes the proper British Standard Pipe Thread (BSPT) hose barb required for the same. It is a brass fitting. Do not over tighten. Only tighten until snug then a 1/4 turn more. Teflon tape, thread tape or liquid tape is not required for the threads of this fitting into the axle housing.
We have seen rear kits going for $60-$75 and up. The aggravation of having to mount a manifold and route multiple lines of hose to complete the job can be annoying. Our kits cover front and rear applications. There is no relocation for the front. Just replacement of the vent/breather. Honestly, once you see how high up the factory locations are for these breathers, you will know why no relocation is needed. You are pretty much dealing with other issues if you let water get that high in the engine bay.
